Watermelon

Watermelon

Watermelon is a beloved, juicy fruit of the hot season — Insaf offers 2 varieties.

Watermelon is roughly 90 percent water — a juicy, refreshing fruit for the summer heat, with some vitamin C as well.

A cold slice of watermelon on a hot afternoon is one of Bangladesh's most familiar summer pleasures.

Growing it in Bangladesh

Sowing time
Big Boss can be sown at any time of year, and Black Beauty Plus is ready for harvest 60–65 days after planting.
Weather & soil
Watermelon wants full sun and loose, sandy-loam soil, which is why it's grown widely on riverside char land. Waterlogging or heavy rain can damage the fruit.
Care
  • Spacing plants well gives vines room to spread and improves fruit quality
  • Avoid disturbing bees during flowering, since they're needed for pollination
  • Placing straw under fruit resting on the soil reduces rot
  • Water regularly, but cutting back as the fruit ripens helps concentrate its sweetness
