Chili

Chili

Chili brings the heat and color to Bengali cooking — Insaf's Bindu 2020 variety is on the market.

Chili is rich in vitamin C, and its heat comes from a compound called capsaicin. Bindu 2020 is known for its notably high pungency.

Few dishes in a Bengali kitchen feel complete without a few raw green chilies on the side.

Sowing time
Bindu 2020 is sown from mid-June to December, and the first fruit is ready roughly 50–60 days after transplanting.
Weather & soil
Chili plants need full sun and cannot tolerate waterlogging at all, so raised, well-drained beds are essential. Heavy rain can cause flowers to drop before setting fruit.
Care
  • Till the soil well before transplanting so it stays loose and well-aerated
  • Watch regularly for whitefly and aphid infestations
  • Picking fruit regularly keeps the plant flowering and fruiting
  • Staking larger plants lightly helps prevent them from toppling under the fruit load
